Emasculation is a hand-pollination technique where a plant breeder removes the anthers from a bisexual flower before they mature and shed pollen, so that the flower cannot self-pollinate.

When a plant breeder wants to cross two different, chosen parent plants (to make a hybrid), they must ensure the female (seed) parent does not fertilise itself with its own pollen.
