Kohlrausch's law of independent migration of ions lets us combine the given molar conductivities of Ba(OH)2, BaCl2 and NH4Cl to get λ°(NH4OH), by cancelling out the ions we don't want.

By Kohlrausch's law: λ°m(NH4OH) = λ°m(NH4+) + λ°m(OH−)

From the given data:

λ°m(Ba(OH)2) = λ°m(Ba2+) + 2λ°m(OH−) = 523.8

λ°m(BaCl2) = λ°m(Ba2+) + 2λ°m(Cl−) = 280.0

λ°m(NH4Cl) = λ°m(NH4+) + λ°m(Cl−) = 129.8

Subtracting the second from the first eliminates Ba2+:

λ°m(Ba(OH)2) − λ°m(BaCl2) = 2λ°m(OH−) − 2λ°m(Cl−) = 523.8 − 280.0 = 243.8 …
