Telecom Services
A world-class telecommunications infrastructure is the key to a country's rapid economic and social development and is, in fact, the backbone of every business activity. The dream of doing business across continents cannot be realised without telecom infrastructure.
- There have been far-reaching developments in the convergence of telecom, IT, consumer electronics and media industries worldwide.
- To enhance quality of life and support India's vision of becoming an IT superpower by 2025, the Government of India developed the Telecom Policy Framework 1999 and the Broadband Policy 2004, intending to provide both universal services to uncovered areas and high-level services for the economy's needs.
Types of telecom services
- Cellular mobile services — all mobile telecom services (voice and non-voice messages, data services and PCO services) within a service area, using any network equipment; they can also interconnect directly with other telecom providers.
- Fixed line services — fixed voice and non-voice messages and data services for long-distance traffic, primarily over fibre-optic cables laid across the country; they also interconnect with other telecom services.
- Cable services — linkages and switched services within a licensed area for media services, essentially one-way entertainment; two-way communication (voice, data, information) through the cable network is expected to grow, and offering services this way is similar to fixed services. …
