Product method: interest on drawings = (sum of amount x months withdrawn) x rate x 1/12.

Interest on drawings is charged on the amount a partner withdraws. A reliable method is the product (simple-interest) method:

  1. For each drawing, compute its product = amount x number of months it remained withdrawn (from the date of drawing to the year-end).
  2. Add all the products.
  3. Interest on drawings = Total of products x (Rate/100) x (1/12). Example: a partner draws Rs.4,000 on 1 July and Rs.2,000 on 1 January (year ending 31 March), rate 12% p.a.
  • 4,000 x 9 = 36,000; 2,000 x 3 = 6,000; total products = 42,000. …
