Training builds job-specific knowledge and skills; its methods are on-the-job (learn while doing) and off-the-job (learn away from work).

Meaning of Training: Training is a systematic process of increasing the knowledge, skills and aptitude of employees for performing a specific job better. It benefits both the organisation (higher productivity, fewer errors, less supervision) and the employee (higher skills, confidence and earning capacity).

Methods of Training:

(A) On-the-Job Methods — The employee learns while actually doing the job at the workplace:

  2. Internship Training — Collaboration between institutes and firms where students gain practical exposure alongside theory.
  3. Job Rotation — Shifting an employee through different jobs/departments to widen skills and understanding.
  4. Coaching / Understudy — A senior guides a junior and prepares him to take over the senior's role.

(B) Off-the-Job Methods — The employee learns away from the actual workplace:

  1. Classroom Lectures / Conferences and Seminars — Knowledge imparted through talks and group discussions.
