A private good is a rival and excludable good whose benefit goes only to the person who pays for it.

A private good is a good that has two key features: (i) rivalry in consumption — if one person consumes it, that much is no longer available to others; and (ii) excludability — a person who does not pay the price can be excluded from enjoying it.
