MTP is the intentional, medically-supervised termination of a pregnancy before full term (induced abortion).

Definition: Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) — also called induced abortion — is the voluntary or intentional termination of a pregnancy before the foetus becomes capable of independent survival, carried out under proper medical care.

Legal position (India): MTP was legalised in India in 1971 (amended 2017/2021). It is generally permitted up to 20 weeks of pregnancy (and up to 24 weeks for special categories of women under the amended rules), only at approved centres by registered practitioners.
