Addition polymerisation = repeated addition of unsaturated monomers with no by-product; e.g. ethene -> polythene, vinyl chloride -> PVC.

Addition polymerisation (also called chain-growth polymerisation) is the process in which the same or different unsaturated monomer molecules (containing carbon-carbon double or triple bonds) add together repeatedly to form a large polymer molecule, without the loss of any small molecule such as water. The molecular formula of the repeating unit is essentially that of the monomer.
