Question of 73

Q.By drawing a ray diagram, explain the formation of image in a compound microscope. Establish the formula for magnifying power for it. OR In a circuit, the equation for alternative voltage V is represented by V=40sin⁡(100πt)V = 40 \sin (100 \pi t) volt. Here tt is in seconds. Draw the time-voltage (tt-VV) graph with proper scale for one cycle. Calculate the root mean square value of voltage.

The objective makes a real magnified image inside the tube; the eyepiece magnifies that as a virtual image. Total magnifying power M=Lfo(1+Dfe)M=\dfrac{L}{f_o}\left(1+\dfrac{D}{f_e}\right).

Construction & image formation. A compound microscope uses two convex lenses:

  • Objective — short focal length fof_o, small aperture, facing the object.
  • Eyepiece — short focal length fef_e (but fe>fof_e>f_o), facing the eye.

The object ABAB is placed just beyond the objective's focus. The objective forms a real, inverted, magnified image A′B′A'B' inside the tube. This image lies within the focal length of the eyepiece, which then acts as a simple microscope and produces a virtual, further-magnified, inverted final image A′′B′′A''B'' at the least distance of distinct vision DD (or at infinity).

(Ray diagram: object beyond FoF_o -> objective -> real image A′B′A'B' near FeF_e -> eyepiece -> enlarged virtual image A′′B′′A''B'' at DD.)

Magnifying power. Total magnification M=mo×meM=m_o\times m_e.
