Semiconductors: small band gap, conductivity between metals and insulators. Doping adds carriers (nn-type electrons, pp-type holes), sharply raising conductivity.

Semiconductors are materials (e.g. Si, Ge) whose electrical conductivity lies between that of conductors and insulators. They have a small energy gap (∼1\sim1 eV) between the valence and conduction bands, so conductivity rises with temperature.
