The opening overdraft ₹3,200 is a credit balance, shown as Balance b/d on the credit side of the bank column. Cash column totals ₹15,500, Bank column ₹11,700; closing Cash ₹1,600, Bank ₹5,700.

Concept — overdraft in the cash book

A bank overdraft means the firm owes the bank — the bank column shows a credit balance, so it is entered on the credit side as Balance b/d. Interest the bank charges on the overdraft (₹200) is a payment (credit, bank column); interest the bank collects on the firm's behalf (₹1,700) is a receipt (debit, bank column). Depositing cash into the bank (Jan. 14) is a contra entry marked 'C'.
