Social networks are legally and ethically bound to provide reporting (grievance) mechanisms, and India's IT rules require platforms to act on complaints. This activity asks you to find the actual procedure — here is a worked model answer:
General procedure (works on almost every platform)
- Go to the offensive post/comment/message.
- Click/tap the three-dot menu (⋮ or …) shown at the corner of the post.
- Select Report (variously labelled Report post, Report abuse, Find support or report).
- Choose the reason from the list offered — harassment/bullying, hate speech, violence or threats, nudity, spam or scam, false information.
- Submit. The platform's moderation team checks the content against its community standards/guidelines and may remove the content, warn, restrict or suspend the account. You usually get a status notification.
Reporting the sender (the account itself)
- Open the person's profile → three-dot menu → Report profile/account, then choose why.
- Additionally use Block so the person can no longer message you or see your content, and review your privacy settings.
Platform examples
- Facebook/Instagram: three dots on the post → Report; on a profile → Report profile.
- X (Twitter): three dots on the tweet → Report post.
- WhatsApp: open the chat → tap the contact name → Report contact (with option to block).
- YouTube: three dots below the video/comment → Report.
