The capitals changed mid-year, so interest is computed period-wise. Interest on capital @ 10% p.a.: Sunflower ₹22,500 and Pink Rose ₹17,500.

Approach

Because the capitals were altered on 1 October 2019, interest is calculated separately for each half-year on the actual balance held (the product method), not on a single average figure.

  • Sunflower: ₹2,50,000 for the first 6 months, then ₹2,00,000 for the next 6 months (₹50,000 withdrawn).
  • Pink Rose: ₹1,50,000 for the first 6 months, then ₹2,00,000 for the next 6 months (₹50,000 introduced).

Working notes

Sunflower

2,50,000 × 10/100 × 6/12 = 12,500 ; 2,00,000 × 10/100 × 6/12 = 10,000

Total = 12,500 + 10,000 = 22,500
