Every moving particle has an associated wavelength λ=h/p\lambda = h/p.

Matter waves: Louis de Broglie proposed that, just as light exhibits both wave and particle nature, moving material particles (electrons, protons, or any object with momentum) also have an associated wave character. These waves associated with moving matter are called matter waves or de Broglie waves.

De Broglie's relation: For a particle of mass mm moving with velocity vv (momentum p=mvp = mv), the associated wavelength is:

λ=hp=hmv\lambda = \dfrac{h}{p} = \dfrac{h}{mv}
