Pass entries for issue of 20,000 shares at ₹12 (₹10 + ₹2 premium): application ₹4, allotment ₹5 (₹3 capital + ₹2 premium), call ₹3. Refund 3,000 excess applications, split allotment into capital and premium, and record the ₹3,000 call arrears on 1,000 shares so that only ₹57,000 of the call is received.

Workings

  • Shares allotted = 20,000; applications received = 23,000; refunded = 3,000.
  • Application money received = 23,000 × 4 = 92,000; refund = 3,000 × 4 = 12,000; retained = 20,000 × 4 = 80,000 (all capital).
  • Allotment = 20,000 × 5 = 1,00,000 → Share Capital 20,000 × 3 = 60,000; Securities Premium 20,000 × 2 = 40,000.
  • Call = 20,000 × 3 = 60,000; unpaid by 1,000 shares = 3,000 (Calls-in-Arrears); received = 57,000.
