Forfeiture: Share Capital Dr 20,000 and Securities Premium Dr 2,000 to Share Forfeiture 8,000 and Calls-in-Arrears 14,000. Reissue of 1,500 at Rs. 9: Bank 13,500 + Forfeiture 1,500 to Share Capital 15,000. Capital Reserve = Rs. 4,500.

Working notes:

  • Face value Rs. 10 + premium Re. 1 = Rs. 11 total; Mr. Das paid only application Rs. 4 per share (toward capital), so Rs. 6 (capital) + Re. 1 (premium) = Rs. 7 per share remained unpaid.
  • Amount received and forfeited = 2,000 x Rs. 4 = Rs. 8,000. Premium Rs. 2,000 (2,000 x Re. 1) was called on allotment but not received, so it is cancelled on forfeiture.
  • Reissue of 1,500 shares at Rs. 9 (face Rs. 10): discount Re. 1 x 1,500 = Rs. 1,500. Forfeited amount on these 1,500 shares = 1,500 x Rs. 4 = Rs. 6,000. Transfer to Capital Reserve = 6,000 - 1,500 = Rs. 4,500. Forfeiture left for the 500 shares not reissued = 500 x Rs. 4 = Rs. 2,000.
