Average cost (average total cost) is total cost divided by the quantity of output, i.e. the cost per unit. It is the sum of average fixed cost and average variable cost, and it falls, reaches a minimum and then rises, giving a U-shaped curve.

Meaning

Average cost, also called average total cost, is the total cost of production divided by the number of units produced. It tells us how much it costs, on average, to produce one unit of the good.
