Explaining overload: The normal development of a sportsperson's training state is disturbed 'when the physical and psychic daily load of life exceeds the loading capacity of the individual.' Sustained overload is considered a disturbance of regular nervous activity, which in turn disturbs optimum energy and metabolic processing — so overload is not simply 'too much exercise,' but a load that is excessive or not well managed, producing anatomical, physiological and psychosocial effects that show up as altered performance, injury, and illness.
