Q.Define economic activity.
Human beings perform a large number of activities every day, and commerce studies only those activities that are connected with earning a living. An economic activity is precisely such an activity: it is performed with the primary object of earning income, a livelihood, or some monetary return, and its outcome — the goods produced, the service rendered, or the wage earned — can be expressed and measured in terms of money. When a shopkeeper sells goods for profit, a lawyer offers legal advice for a fee, or an employee works in a factory for a salary, each is engaged in an economic activity. Economic activities are studied under three broad heads in the Andhra Pradesh Intermediate commerce syllabus: business, profession and employment. They stand in contrast to non-economic activities, which are performed out of love, duty, religious belief or personal interest, without any thought of monetary gain, and which therefore fall outside the scope of commerce and business studies.
An economic activity is any human activity — business, profession or employment — undertaken to earn income or a livelihood, whose result can be measured in money.
