Extensive properties scale with the quantity of matter; intensive properties do not.

Extensive properties

These depend on the amount (mass or moles) of the substance in the system - if the amount is doubled, the property doubles. Examples: mass, volume, total internal energy (U), enthalpy (H), entropy (S), heat capacity.

Intensive properties

These are independent of the amount of substance - they have the same value however much material is present. Examples: temperature, pressure, density, refractive index, viscosity, and molar/specific quantities (e.g. molar volume, specific heat).
