Latent heat of fusion is the heat absorbed per unit mass during the solid-to-liquid phase change at constant temperature (the melting point).

When a solid substance is heated, its temperature rises until it reaches its melting point. At the melting point, further heat supplied does not raise the temperature further; instead it is used entirely to break the intermolecular bonds holding the solid's crystal structure together, converting the solid into liquid at the same temperature. This heat, absorbed without any temperature change, is called the latent heat of fusion.
