NAND is an AND gate followed by a NOT (inverter); NOR is an OR gate followed by a NOT. Their truth tables are the logical complements of AND and OR.

NAND gate: obtained by connecting a NOT gate to the output of an AND gate. Its output Y is the complement of the AND of the inputs A and B: Y = (A·B)'

Truth table (2-input NAND):

A=0,B=0 → Y=1

A=0,B=1 → Y=1

A=1,B=0 → Y=1

A=1,B=1 → Y=0

The output is LOW (0) only when both inputs are HIGH (1); otherwise it is HIGH.

NOR gate: obtained by connecting a NOT gate to the output of an OR gate. Its output Y is the complement of the OR of the inputs: Y = (A+B)'

Truth table (2-input NOR):

A=0,B=0 → Y=1

A=0,B=1 → Y=0

A=1,B=0 → Y=0

A=1,B=1 → Y=0
