Mean free path is the average distance travelled between successive collisions; it depends on the number density and diameter of the gas molecules.

Mean free path (λ\lambda) is defined as the average distance travelled by a gas molecule between two successive collisions with other molecules of the gas.

λ=12 n πd2\lambda = \dfrac{1}{\sqrt{2}\, n\, \pi d^2}

where nn is the number density (number of molecules per unit volume) and dd is the molecular diameter. So it depends on: (1) the number density n of the gas (inversely — a denser gas has more frequent collisions, so shorter mean free path), and (2) the size (diameter d) of the molecules (inversely, as 1/d21/d^2 — larger molecules collide more often).
