Main: M = μ0 π r1²/(2 r2), from the field of the big coil at its centre acting on the small coil. OR: equal flux per turn gives V_s/V_p = N_s/N_p.

MAIN — mutual inductance of concentric coils:

Mutual inductance is the property by which a changing current in one coil induces an e.m.f. in a neighbouring coil; numerically M is the flux linkage in one coil per unit current in the other (Φ2 = M I1).

Since r1 ≪ r2, treat the field of the LARGE coil (radius r2) as uniform over the SMALL coil at the common centre:

B (at centre of large coil) = μ0 I2 / (2 r2).

This field threads the small coil of area A1 = π r1²:

Φ (through small coil) = B × A1 = [μ0 I2/(2 r2)] × π r1².

By definition Φ = M I2, so

M = μ0 π r1² / (2 r2).

OR — step-up transformer: …
