Step 1: Recall the solubility balance

Dissolution requires the hydration enthalpy of the ions to compensate for the lattice enthalpy of the solid.

Step 2: Note the anion size here

Carbonate (CO32−_3^{2-}) and sulphate (SO42−_4^{2-}) are large, polyatomic anions. When the anion is large, the lattice enthalpy of the salt is dominated by the anion's size and changes only slightly as the cation grows down the group.

Step 3: Track hydration enthalpy

The cation's hydration enthalpy, however, keeps decreasing steadily down the group as the cation gets larger (charge density falls).
