Streamline flow is smooth and orderly; turbulent flow is chaotic with eddies, occurring above a critical speed.

In streamline (laminar) flow, every fluid particle passing a given point follows the same smooth path (streamline) as the particles before it; different streamlines never cross, and the velocity at any fixed point in the fluid remains constant with time. This occurs when the flow speed is below a critical value, corresponding to low Reynolds number.
