Streamline flow is smooth and orderly with non-crossing particle paths; turbulent flow is chaotic, with eddies and unpredictable velocity fluctuations, occurring once the flow speed crosses a critical value (high Reynolds number).

Streamline flow (also called laminar flow): a flow in which every particle of the fluid passing a particular point follows exactly the same path (the streamline) as every particle that passed that point before it. The velocity of the fluid at any given point remains constant in time (though it may vary from point to point), and streamlines never intersect each other. It occurs at low flow speeds / low Reynolds numbers.
