Political Science · Ch 17 — Nationalism
Introduction
Introduction
This chapter introduces the ideas of nation and nationalism. Rather than asking why nationalism first arose or what social purposes it serves, the chapter's real interest is in thinking carefully about nationalism itself and weighing its claims and aspirations. By the end of the chapter you should be able to understand the concepts of nation and nationalism, recognise both the strengths and the limitations of nationalism, and appreciate why nationalism needs to stay closely linked to democracy.
