Set-builder form describes a set by stating the common rule its elements satisfy: {x:property of x}\{x : \text{property of } x\}.

Set-builder form: Set={x:P(x)}\text{Set}=\{x : P(x)\}, where P(x)P(x) is the defining property shared by exactly the elements of the set.

  1. (i) A={1,4,9,16}A=\{1,4,9,16\}. These are 12,22,32,421^2,2^2,3^2,4^2 — squares of the first four natural numbers. A={x:x=n2, n∈N, 1≤n≤4}A=\{x : x=n^2,\ n\in\mathbb{N},\ 1\le n\le4\}.
  2. (ii) B={2,3,5,7,11}B=\{2,3,5,7,11\}. These are exactly the prime numbers less than 1212. B={x:x is a prime number, x<12}B=\{x : x \text{ is a prime number},\ x<12\}. …
