Shift+Delete bypasses the Recycle Bin, but a recovery tool (e.g. Recuva) can scan the disk and rebuild the file because deletion only removes the directory entry — demonstrated below with a test file; note that SSD TRIM or overwriting can defeat recovery.

Step 1 — create the test file.

Right-click the Desktop → New → Text Document → name it testfile.txt. Open it, type a recognisable line ("This is my recovery test"), save and close.

Step 2 — delete it permanently.

Select the file and press Shift+Delete → Yes. Unlike a plain Delete, this does not move the file to the Recycle Bin — open the Bin and confirm it is not there. To the user, the file is gone for good.

Step 3 — understand what really happened (the concept).

The file system only removed testfile.txt's directory entry and marked its blocks free. The bytes "This is my recovery test" are still physically on the disk until something overwrites them. So: from this moment, avoid saving anything new to that drive.

Step 4 — recover it with a recovery tool (Recuva as the example; PhotoRec works similarly):

StepAction
1Download/install Recuva — installing it on a different drive than the one holding the deleted file, if possible
2Run it; in the wizard choose file type Documents and location On my Desktop
3Scan — the results list shows testfile.txt (green dot = excellent recovery chance)
4Tick it → Recover → choose a folder on a different drive
5Open the recovered file — the line "This is my recovery test" is intact
