(ii) FD4,
(iii) 3A,
(iv) 64.4.
The idea. Decimal to hexadecimal uses two complementary procedures:
- Integer part — repeated division by 16; the remainders (with 10=A, 11=B, 12=C, 13=D, 14=E, 15=F) read bottom-to-top form the hex digits.
- Fractional part — repeated multiplication by 16; the integer part produced at each step, read top-to-bottom, forms the hex digits after the point.
(i) (548)10
| Division | Quotient | Remainder |
|---|---|---|
| 548 / 16 | 34 | 4 |
| 34 / 16 | 2 | 2 |
| 2 / 16 | 0 | 2 |
Reading up: (224)16. Check: 2x256 + 2x16 + 4 = 512+32+4 = 548.
(ii) (4052)10
| Division | Quotient | Remainder |
|---|---|---|
| 4052 / 16 | 253 | 4 |
| 253 / 16 | 15 | 13 = D |
| 15 / 16 | 0 | 15 = F |
Reading up: (FD4)16. Check: 15x256 + 13x16 + 4 = 3840+208+4 = 4052.
(iii) (58)10
| Division | Quotient | Remainder |
|---|---|---|
| 58 / 16 | 3 | 10 = A |
| 3 / 16 | 0 | 3 |
Reading up: (3A)16. Check: 3x16 + 10 = 58.
(iv) (100.25)10 — handle the two parts separately:
Integer part 100:
100 / 16 = 6 remainder 4
6 / 16 = 0 remainder 6
Reading up: (64)16
Fractional part 0.25 (multiply by 16, take the integer part):
0.25 x 16 = 4.0 -> digit 4, fraction left = 0 (stop)
So (100.25)10 = (64.4)16 …
