The North-Eastern Plateau Region

This region is the richest mineral belt in India. The concentration of minerals here is the reason why major iron and steel plants, like those at Jamshedpur and Bokaro, are located in this area. The book asks you to think about this connection: industries are set up close to where their raw materials are found.

The North-Eastern Plateau Region covers the Chhotanagpur plateau in Jharkhand, the Odisha Plateau, parts of West Bengal, and some areas of Chhattisgarh. It is a single, continuous mineral-rich zone.

  • Coal
  • Manganese
  • Bauxite (the ore from which aluminium is obtained)
  • Mica …
