Jansie

Jansie is Sophie's friend and, in almost every respect, her opposite. She is practical, realistic and clear-sighted, firmly aware that she and Sophie are destined for the biscuit factory and unlikely to escape it. When Sophie spins her grand ambitions, Jansie punctures them gently with facts, reminding her that such dreams need money they do not have. She is also loyal and a little cautious, worried that Sophie's stories about Danny Casey will spread and cause embarrassment.
