Saheb is a ragpicker boy whose poverty strips away his childhood innocence, dreams, and freedom, trapping him in a cycle of survival and exploitation.

Saheb-e-Alam — his name means "lord of the universe" — is a cruel irony. He is a Bangladeshi refugee child who scavenges garbage in Seemapuri, Delhi, searching for coins, scraps, anything salvageable. His family fled their homeland after storms destroyed their fields, and now survival, not schooling or play, defines his days.

When the narrator asks why he doesn't go to school, Saheb says there is none. Yet when she half-jokingly offers to start one, he takes her seriously — his eyes betray a flicker of hope, a longing for something beyond the garbage heaps.
