Voter ID cards in India contain a standard set of data fields that are identical for all citizens, ensuring uniformity across the electoral roll.

When you look at the Voter ID cards of your family members, you will notice that each card is a small, laminated document issued by the Election Commission of India. The card is designed to serve as a proof of identity and to help in the smooth conduct of elections. The data on the card is organised into specific fields, each capturing a crucial piece of information about the voter.

The primary data fields you will find on every Voter ID card include the voter's full name, the name of the voter's father or mother (or both, in some newer versions), the voter's date of birth, and the voter's gender. Additionally, the card displays a unique Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number, which is a 10-digit alphanumeric code assigned to each individual. The card also shows the voter's residential address, often broken down into house number, street, locality, and district. Finally, the card includes a photograph of the voter and a space for the signature or thumb impression.

In some older cards, the field for the parent's name might only show the father's name, but newer cards often include both parents' names to be more inclusive.

Now, the crucial question: are these data fields the same for all family members? The answer is yes, the fields are identical for every voter. The Election Commission of India has standardised the format of the Voter ID card across the country. This means that whether you look at your own card, your father's, your mother's, or your sibling's, you will see the same set of fields: name, parent's name, date of birth, gender, EPIC number, address, and photograph. …
