WHO's four age-group guidelines build on each other: under-5 is about safe active play and sleep; 5-17 targets fitness and mental health; 18-64 fixes aerobic/strength minutes; 65+ adds balance work for fall prevention.

Children under 5: divided into Infants (under 1 year), Toddlers (1-2 years) and 3-4 years. Infants should be active several times a day through floor-based play, including 30 minutes of tummy time, with 14-17 (or 12-16) hours of sleep depending on exact age. Toddlers and 3-4 year-olds should each get at least 180 minutes of physical activity a day (the older group needing at least 60 of those minutes to be moderate-to-vigorous), alongside screen-time limits and 10-14 hours of sleep.

The chief aim is improving cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness, bone health, and metabolic biomarkers, and reducing anxiety/depression.

Adults 18-64 years: 150-300 minutes/week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, or 75-150 minutes/week of vigorous-intensity activity (each bout at least 10 minutes), plus muscle-strengthening activity for major muscle groups on 2 or more days a week. This lowers the risk of all-cause mortality, several major diseases, and helps maintain healthy weight and bone health. …
