Elasticity of supply = %change in quantity supplied ÷ %change in price; measured by the percentage (proportionate) method.

Meaning — Price elasticity of supply measures how responsive the quantity supplied of a good is to a change in its price. If a small price change brings a large change in quantity supplied, supply is elastic; if quantity hardly responds, supply is inelastic.

Measurement (percentage/proportionate method):

Es = (Percentage change in quantity supplied) ÷ (Percentage change in price)

= (ΔQ/Q × 100) ÷ (ΔP/P × 100)

= (ΔQ/ΔP) × (P/Q)

where ΔQ is the change in quantity supplied, Q the original quantity, ΔP the change in price and P the original price.
