Every moving material particle has a wave associated with it, called a de Broglie (matter) wave, with wavelength λ=h/p\lambda = h/p.

In 1924, Louis de Broglie proposed that just as radiation shows a dual (wave-particle) nature, matter too should exhibit wave-like behaviour. He postulated that a moving particle of momentum p=mvp = mv has associated with it a wave — called the de Broglie wave or matter wave — whose wavelength is given by

λ=hp=hmv\lambda = \dfrac{h}{p} = \dfrac{h}{mv}

where hh is Planck's constant, mm is the mass of the particle and vv is its speed.
