De Broglie proposed that every moving particle has an associated wave whose wavelength equals Planck's constant divided by the particle's momentum.

De Broglie extended the wave-particle duality (already known for light) to matter. For a particle of mass mm moving with velocity vv, its momentum is p=mvp = mv, and the associated matter wave has wavelength:

λ=hp=hmv\lambda = \frac{h}{p} = \frac{h}{mv}

where hh is Planck's constant (6.63×10−34 J s6.63\times10^{-34}\ \text{J s}).
