A−B={a}=(A∪B)−BA-B=\{a\}=(A\cup B)-B, so the identity holds.

Given A={a,b,c,d}A=\{a,b,c,d\} and B={b,c,d,e}B=\{b,c,d,e\}.

Left-hand side — A−BA-B is the set of elements in AA but not in BB:

A−B={a}A-B=\{a\}

Right-hand side — first form the union:

A∪B={a,b,c,d,e}A\cup B=\{a,b,c,d,e\}

Then remove the elements of BB:

(A∪B)−B={a,b,c,d,e}−{b,c,d,e}={a}(A\cup B)-B=\{a,b,c,d,e\}-\{b,c,d,e\}=\{a\}
