A lever is made of a fulcrum, effort and load; the three classes differ by which of these lies in the middle.

The three parts of a lever:

  • Fulcrum — the fixed pivot point about which the lever turns (a joint in the body).
  • Effort — the force applied to move the lever (muscular contraction).
