The output waveform Y is HIGH only during the brief window when both inputs A and B are simultaneously HIGH, which is the defining behaviour of an AND gate.

A 2-input AND gate produces logic output

Y=A⋅BY = A \cdot B

which is HIGH only when both A and B are HIGH at the same instant, and LOW at every other combination.

In the given timing diagram, A and B are square waves that are phase-shifted relative to each other, so their HIGH intervals only briefly coincide once in the shown window — and it is exactly during that brief coincidence that Y goes HIGH, while Y stays LOW everywhere else (i.e. whenever at least one of A, B is LOW). This one-pulse-per-overlap behaviour is the signature of an AND gate.
