Q.The demand function for a good is Qd=200−4PQ_d = 200 - 4P and the supply function is Qs=−40+6PQ_s = -40 + 6P, where PP is the price in ₹ and QQ is the quantity. Both are linear functions of PP. Find the equilibrium price and the equilibrium quantity, i.e. the point at which Qd=QsQ_d = Q_s.

Setting demand equal to supply.

Qd=Qs ⇒ 200−4P=−40+6PQ_d = Q_s \ \Rightarrow \ 200 - 4P = -40 + 6P

200+40=6P+4P ⇒ 240=10P ⇒ P=₹24200 + 40 = 6P + 4P \ \Rightarrow \ 240 = 10P \ \Rightarrow \ P = ₹24

Equilibrium quantity. Substituting P=24P=24 into the demand function:

Qd=200−4(24)=200−96=104Q_d = 200 - 4(24) = 200-96 = 104 …
