(A) This question is for General Students.
Draw a bar diagram and analyse it on the basis of below given informations:
| Year | Population (In crores) |
|---|---|
| 1971 | 54.8 |
| 1981 | 68.3 |
| 1991 | 84.6 |
| 2001 | 102.7 |
| 2011 | 121.02 |
(B) This question is only for the Blind Students.
Blind Students are required to do only analysis of the data given in 63 (A).

Part (A): Drawing the bar diagram (described in words)
Since a bar diagram cannot be physically drawn here, the method and layout are described so a student can draw it exactly:
- Type: A simple (vertical) bar diagram, as there is a single variable (population) for each year.
- X-axis (horizontal): Mark the five years at equal distances — 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001, 2011.
- Y-axis (vertical): Mark population in crores, choosing a suitable scale, e.g. 1 cm = 20 crores (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120…).
- Bars: Draw one bar of equal width for each year, with spacing between bars, and height equal to that year's population:
| Year | Population (crores) | Bar height (to scale) |
|---|---|---|
| 1971 | 54.8 | up to ~54.8 |
| 1981 | 68.3 | up to ~68.3 |
| 1991 | 84.6 | up to ~84.6 |
| 2001 | 102.7 | up to ~102.7 |
| 2011 | 121.02 | up to ~121.02 |
- Give a title ('Population of India, 1971–2011'), label both axes with units, and mention the data source below the diagram.
Part (B): Analysis of the data (also the required answer for blind students)
- India's population has increased continuously at every census from 1971 to 2011 — there is no fall in any decade.
- It rose from 54.8 crores in 1971 to 121.02 crores in 2011, i.e. it more than doubled in 40 years (an increase of about 66 crores). …
