Income method: add all factor incomes (wages, rent, interest, profit, mixed income) to get domestic income, then add NFIA.

The income method (factor-payment / distributive-share method) measures national income by summing all the incomes earned by the factors of production for their contribution to output during a year.

Components of domestic factor income (NDP at factor cost):

  1. Compensation of employees — wages, salaries in cash and kind, and employers' contributions to social security.
  2. Rent and royalty — income from land and other property.
  3. Interest — interest on capital used in production (not on consumption or government debt).
  4. Profit — corporate tax + dividends + undistributed (retained) profits.
  5. Mixed income of the self-employed — income of own-account workers where wage, rent, interest and profit cannot be separated.

Formula:

NDP at FC = Compensation of employees + Rent + Interest + Profit + Mixed income.

National Income (NNP at FC) = NDP at FC + Net Factor Income from Abroad (NFIA).
