Ray diagram (described): Parallel rays from a distant object fall on the objective lens (focal length , large aperture) and converge to form a real, inverted, diminished image at its focus . This intermediate image lies at (or very near) the focal point of the eyepiece (focal length ). The eyepiece, acting as a simple magnifier, takes this real image as its object and forms a final, magnified, virtual image. In normal adjustment, the final image forms at infinity, so the intermediate image sits exactly at the common focus of objective and eyepiece (separation ).
