Meiosis during microsporogenesis takes place inside the diploid Microspore (Pollen) Mother Cell, converting it into a tetrad of four haploid microspores.

Microsporogenesis is the formation of microspores (pollen grains) inside the microsporangium (pollen sac) of an anther. Each pollen sac contains numerous diploid sporogenous cells, which differentiate into Microspore Mother Cells (Pollen Mother Cells, PMCs). It is these PMCs that undergo meiosis: meiosis I halves the chromosome number and meiosis II separates the sister chromatids, so one diploid PMC yields four haploid microspores arranged together as a microspore tetrad.
