Torque is the moment of force that causes rotation; angular momentum is the moment of linear momentum that measures rotational motion, and torque equals the rate of change of angular momentum.

Torque: Torque (or moment of force) about a point is defined as tau = r x F, where r is the position vector from the axis/point to the point of application of force F. Its magnitude is tau = r F sin(theta), where theta is the angle between r and F. Torque is the rotational analogue of force — it is what causes a change in the rotational state (angular acceleration) of a body, just as force causes linear acceleration. SI unit: newton-metre (N m).

Angular momentum: Angular momentum about a point is defined as L = r x p, where p = mv is the linear momentum of the particle. Its magnitude is L = r p sin(theta) = m v r sin(theta). For a rigid body rotating about a fixed axis with moment of inertia I and angular velocity omega, L = I omega. Angular momentum is the rotational analogue of linear momentum. SI unit: kg m^2/s (or J s).
