Cause: Ringworm is one of the most common fungal (mycotic) infections in humans, caused by dermatophytic fungi belonging to the genera Microsporum, Trichophyton and Epidermophyton.
Symptoms: It manifests as dry, scaly lesions on various parts of the body such as the skin, scalp and nails. The lesions typically appear as ring-shaped reddish patches with a raised, clearer margin, and are accompanied by intense itching. The infection is generally aggravated by sweating, which is why it is more common and troublesome in warm, humid climates and in areas of the body prone to sweating (groin, between toes).
