Gene therapy is a therapeutic/clinical procedure to correct a genetic disorder in a patient by introducing a normal gene; gene cloning is a molecular biology technique to make many identical copies of a gene, mainly for study or production, not to treat any individual's disease.

Gene therapy is a collection of methods that seek to correct a gene defect diagnosed in a child/embryo by delivering a normal, functional copy of the defective gene into the affected individual's cells (often via a viral or other vector), so that the gene product can be produced and compensate for the faulty gene - the goal is a permanent cure for a genetic disease. Example: the ADA deficiency gene therapy trial.
